     Meeting Time and Place:
CS U610 will meet Thursdays 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in 149 CN.                
     Overview:
CS U610 is a capstone course for computer science honors students. The professor will choose a topic of current interest in computer science. Students will prepare oral presentations, write a paper, and work on a joint project.                
     Particulars:
This semester CS U610 will focus on speech processing.
  • There will be ~6 weeks of lectures and labs to learn some basics of speech processing.
  • We will use Matlab on PCs.
  • A collection of texts will be placed on reserve.
  • Students will pick projects to be worked on in pairs.
  • Each pair will
    • do a literature search for articles related to the project.
    • present an introductory talk on the project (background and plans, ~30 minutes)
    • design, document, implement, and test a piece of software
    • present the completed software (demo and discussion, ~30 minutes)
    • Write a conference style paper (4 or 5 pages) on the project
