Introduction to Computer Science and its Applications

Course Charter: This course teaches spreadsheet, relational database, and statistical software. Students gain enough experience to use these tools in their future work. They explore how to conceptualize a problem so that it may be solved using these kinds of software, and how to build and test a proposed solution.

The course is designed for non-CS majors.

Course Objectives: The goal is to help you learn how to use a computer as an effective tool in your professional career. The emphasis will be on learning how to represent information as data, and how to design programs that consume data and produce data that represents new information or a new insight related to the existing information. The programs will leverage the widely used application software: Excel spreadsheet, Access database, and the SPSS statistical application package.
