Homework

Instructions

  • You may use textbooks, class notes or online searches so long as the resource does not which directly resolve your HW problems (e.g. chatGPT)

  • Show intermediate steps leading to your answers for full credit.

  • You are welcome to work on problems with classmates though you may not directly view another student’s solution to a given problem.

  • List your homework group members: “Homework group: person A, person B” or “HW group: none” near the top of the first page of your submission. A 5 point penalty will be applied to all work which does not include this statement.

  • HW groups may have four or fewer student in them

  • Some points are labelled as extra credit (they’ll be labelled “+ 2 extra” or similar). These problems are intended to be challenging and fun. Take a minute or two on them, and if you’re not having fun feel free to skip the problem. (To minimize any fear-of-missing-out, the point values on these will be quite modest … if you’re looking to improve your grade be sure to polish your work on the rest of the HW).

Submitting to Gradescope

  • Please do not write multiple problem solution on the same page (though using multiple pages for a single problem is fine). This makes it easier for our graders to navigate your work. Any submission with multiple problems per page will have a 5 point penalty applied (once per whole assignment, no double jeopardy).

  • Your work should be easily legible, up to 10 points may be penalized for work which isn’t easily read. Work which isn’t readable will earn no points:

    • you may use Cam Scanner on your phone to create a pdf using ``Magic Color’’

    • file formats not readable by gradescope (e.g. the apple default image format HEIC) may be penalized up to 10 points as well. If you can view images of your work on gradescope’s website, your format is appropriate

Instructions on uploading your work to gradescope can be found in Gradescope’s Documentation (click this link).

  • Please be sure to properly mark each problem to the corresponding pages in your submission, a 5 point penalty may be applied to problems which aren’t sufficiently tagged.

    • An extra credit problem you haven’t attempted may be tagged as any page

    • The “HW Formatting” question on gradescope is where we’ll apply any penalties for formatting errors described here. Please tag the first page for this “question”.

Tip

Gradescope accepts multiple submissions for a single assignment. We’ll grade the latest one, ignoring previous versions.

Use this multiple submission feature to test gradescope if you’re a first time user. Its also helpful in the event you’re cutting a deadline particularly close: submit mostly complete work at 10 pm for the 11:59 pm deadline while continuing to work on incomplete parts which you hope to include in a later submission. (Though you’ll do yourself a favor by starting early to avoid this situation entirely!).

Regrades

If you feel a mistake has been made in the grading of your work, you may request a regrade through gradescope. The first regrade request will be managed by the TA who originally graded your work. If you are still not satisfied with the grading, the course instructors will look at it themselves, just email the instructor directly. Your email must include a url link to your assignment in gradescope of the form:

https://www.gradescope.com/courses/478298/assignments/2601151/submissions/175893272

Note

Grade adjustments will only be made based on the merit of the work submitted. Please do not submit a regrade request asking for points with other justifications.

Regrade requests will only be considered up to one week after the graded HW has been posted. In other words, if your HW is returned on Sept 7th then you have until Sept 14th to submit a regrade request. (There may be a tighter deadline on the final HW to allow us to finalize grades).
