Undergraduate Advising
The faculty and administration of the College of Computer and Information Science pride themselves on maintaining a supportive environment for all of our students. CCIS offers the community feel of a small college, combined with the broad set of opportunities and choices of a large urban university.
Undergraduate advising is an essential element of the supportive environment for students. At CCIS, students have four levels of advising available to them:
- Academic advisors are available every day that classes are in session. Students can talk with a professor who is currently holding advising hours or wait until the professor of their choice has his or her advising hours.
- Professor Richard Rasala, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies, holds frequent office hours, makes special appointments, and does extensive consulting with students by e-mail: rasala@ccs.neu.edu. Prof. Rasala is also available to answer questions from prospective students.
- Mr. Mark Erickson (ericks@ccs.neu.edu), Ms. Melissa Irgens Peikin (irgensm@ccs.neu.edu), and Ms. Aileen Kent-Yates (ayates@ccs.neu.edu) serve as half-time academic advisors and half-time cooperative education coordinators. They are located in suite 302 WVH. Appointments can be made on line.
- Professor Mel Simms is a full-time cooperative education coordinator and works with graduate students seeking co-op assignments. simms@ccs.neu.edu
- Ms. Doreen Hodgkin, Assistant Dean, Administration and Student Services, is always available to help students with both academic and administrative issues. Doreen is available to answer questions from prospective students. dhodgkin@ccs.neu.edu
