Research Seminars
Many of the research groups in the college run regular seminars. If you think you might be interested in a particular research area, start going to that seminar. You probably won't understand everything at first; that's OK. Most of the other junior grad students are likely in the same position, even those who know they want to work in that area. That's apparently one of the purposes of the first year of grad school: to teach you just how much you don't know about CS!
