We're delighted to have such a distinguished group of speakers; I do hope you find the event an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Here's a bunch of information to help you plan your visit. Firstly, IPP will pay your travel expenses, so please keep all your receipts (Brown's travel policy police are intractible!). I've reserved rooms at the Brown guest facility for the night of the 31st (omigoodness, Halloween!); it's only a couple of blocks from our building and parking is included. Please call 401-863-7500 to reserve a room and mention that you're an IPP speaker (we'll pick up the tab). *The deadline for reserving a room is October 1*. For AV needs, please access our website at: http://www.cs.brown.edu/industry/ipp/av.html Max Salvas is the technical staffer who handles this, so please feel free to contact him directly (mls@cs.brown.edu, 401-863-7625). Directions are also on the website. The audience for your talks will consist of employees of our Partner companies, faculty and students. Industrial Partner companies are: Compaq, EMC, Foxboro, GTECH, IBM, InterTrust, MERL, Microsoft Research and Sun. Typically, we have between 40 and 60 participants, which provides for a good deal of interaction between speakers and the audience. The symposium info flyer will be completed and emailed to our Industrial Partners as soon as we have your titles and abstracts; it will be followed by the hard-copy version. To make sure you receive appropriate mailings, may I please have the following information: mailing address, title, phone/fax. As soon as the actual schedule for the talks is set, I'll let you know, but here's the general idea: We start with breakfast at 8:30, have 2 talks, then a break, one more talk, then lunch (substantial). 2 talks after lunch, a break, another talk, a panel discussion and lastly a reception with wine, beer and hot/cold hors d'oeuvre. Talks last from 40' to an hour. The symposium will be written up in the spring issue of our departmental newsletter, conduit!, and will include a photograph of the speakers. During the lunch period, I'll be coralling all of you for a group shot with your faculty hosts. Finally, may I have hard copy of your overheads as soon as they're available (reduced, numbered and black on white, if possible, to save our copier!)...emailing is fine too. These are copied and stuffed into attendees' packets in advance. MANY thanks for sticking with me through this barrage; do let me know if you need any other information at all. I'm very much looking forward to meeting you and welcoming you to CS on November 1. cheers s -- -- -- -- Susan J.
