While cleaning up my office I found Peter Deutsch's requirements
for a design notation:

One of them is:
assignment of responsibilities to objects without making a
commitment about their structure

Hmm, this is a very nice way of saying what one would like to do, and
clearly adaptive software is a big step in that direction.
