Hi. Thank you for your interest in Demeter. We are still offering Demeter/C++ on the WWW but we have shifted all our resources to developing and supporting Demeter/Java. We strongly recommend that you use Demeter/Java to learn about Adaptive Programming. This has the following advantages for you: 1. Demeter/Java is much more in tune with object-oriented modeling than Demeter/C++. A powerful way of composing behavior is through visitor object composition. This is an important new feature of Demeter/Java. 2. The syntax is _much_ simpler in Demeter/Java. The behavior language is a small extension to Java. 3. Demeter/Java runs everywhere since it is written in Java. It has been successfully used with Windows/NT, Windows 95, Solaris, SUNOS, Linux. Demeter/Java is distributed with source code. http://www.ccs.neu.edu/home/lieber/Demeter-and-Java.html From hampus@lysator.liu.se Sat Mar 15 10:58:31 1997 To: demeter@ccs.neu.edu Subject: Installation of the Demeter System/C++ Also: Aug 13 10:48:02 1997 achrist@easystreet.com I have read the book on Demeter and looked over the materials that I can find via the internet. I have a project that I would like to try it on. Unfortunately, my project is C++ under MS-Windows (various versions involved), and I see only a mention that Demeter tools for that arena may be forthcoming. Can you offer any additional information on if/when such things will be available? My work is small-time but commercial, so I wouldn't mind too much the cost of a license for a reasonably-priced commercial product, if that is a timely option. I notice that most of the materials posted on the internet are fairly old to be current (2 or more years). I wonder if the work on Demeter is still progressing or if it has been shifted to some commercial emphasis.
