Hi Phil: To get started with Demeter/Javaa take a look at: http://www.ccs.neu.edu/research/demeter/sources/DemeterJava/platforms/unix/insta llation-guide or http://www.ccs.neu.edu/research/demeter/sources/DemeterJava/platforms and select the subdirectory of your platform. Demeter/Java is very light-weight: The Demeter/Java run-time library consists only of two classes: Ident and Text. At compile-time, you need a Java compiler and libraries and the Java compiler compiler from SUN. Demeter/Java is written in Java and you no longer need Demeter/C++ or CUP. For examples, see: http://www.ccs.neu.edu/research/demeter/sources/DemeterJava/examples Demeter Java/0.4.4 is now available (pre-alpha). This is not yet the time to develop commercial products with Demeter/Java but it is an excellent tool to learn the design style of traversal-visitor programming. You can use this style in regular Java programs but your designs will become more flexible. If you want to get 0.4.4, please send me mail. Over 60 students have used Demeter/Java. -- Karl From Dunbar@compuserve.com Tue Mar 18 11:03:46 1997 From: "phil dunbar " Subject: Demeter/Java To: Karl Lieberherr Karl, Good to hear from you! I'm trying to order your book by phone. Your publisher has an office in Germany, but the line has been busy. Thanks for your offer to help. I looked at your web pages on Demeter/Java, but I'm still not sure what I need to get started. Do I still need Demeter/C++ and CUP? Would I be able to get anywhere with Demeter/Java 0.4.3? Phil.
