Hi Josh: the Demeter group maintains a web site and answers questions such as the one below. The question below indicates that our website is not optimally organized. Please can you start your own web page: "Marshall's View of Demeter" http://www.ccs.neu.edu/home/jayantha which provides a view into the Demeter home page which is useful to someone relatively new to Demeter. To start, your page should contain information to asnwer the question below: They should use Demeter/Java. I have answered this question before: see files in: http://www.ccs.neu.edu/research/demeter/messages I think you are the right person to provide this new view since you are in the process of figuring out the world of AP. -- Karl From MSpit@mc.mey.nl Wed Jun 25 07:28:27 1997 To: lieber@ccs.neu.edu Date: Wed, 25 Jun 1997 08:08:08 +0200 Subject: Demeter Tools in Macao Martin Spit @ MEY MC 25-06-97 08:08 Dear Karl: Mr. Chiu has an interest in Demeter which I cannot satisfy with my thesis. Are you willing to help him? BTW I'm working sending you the .tex files of my thesis, but in a recent move I seem to have misplaced them. But they must be there, somewhere... Best Regards, --Martin Dear Dr Spit, I must express my most sincere gratitute to you for your sending to me your dotoral thesis on Demeter which I received some time ago. I must admit that although I have great interest in Adaptive Methods, I cannot fully understand your work, due to the short description in Propagation Patterns. So to the Internet I went and after much search, I downloaded several chapters of Dr Lieberherr's book (only several chapters are available on-line) as well as several papers from the http://www.ccs.neu.edu.../Demeter/.. Among the information gathered, I found a file entitled: ADAPTIVE TOOLS/C++ STRUCTURE-SHY DESIGN PATTERN // ELASTIC OBJECTs In this paper I found the wordings: The Demeter Tools/C++ object code is distributed free of charge to promote the adaptive software technology and make it widely available.... But apart from these, no where can I discover how to download the announced Demeter Tools. I must say sorry again to have to trouble you for your indications: 1) Where can I download a recent version of Demeter Tools/C++ for MS Windows 95 or NT ; 2) Among the many papers downloadable in the ftp site of ccs.neu.edu, which papers are essential for a beginning understanding of the Demeter Method. 3) I have at hand two papers OBJECT ORIENTED SOFTWARE EVOLUTION and FORMAL FOUNDATIONS FOR OBJECT ORIENTED DATA MODELING by Dr. Lieberherr and Dr. Cun Xiao, but obviously they are closer related to the programming part, not the methodology part (as treated in your dotoral thesis) of Demeter. A step by step reading is essential, obviously to study the methodology you developed out of the Demeter programming. (e.g.The Law of Demeter is not clear to me as mentioned). But could I have some guidance from you in this regard? Thank you so much in advance Dr. Spit for your advice, and with hearty regards. Chan Siu Chiu
