Call for Participation
This workshop is aimed at exploring new trends in the reuse of software:
Software which supports richer reuse must be highly flexible and easily adaptable. Ideally, it should be adaptive, in the sense that it can adjust to certain context changes without the programmer intervention.
Only a few approaches to object-oriented software engineering concentrate on these issues. These tend to involve extensions to the object-oriented paradigm, so they are not currently "mainstream", but it is our belief that these approaches will be of paramount importance as object-oriented software engineering matures, and will be instrumental in achieving its potential.
The plan for this workshop is to bring together people who have experienced barriers to software reusability and those working on extensions to increase software flexibility.
Topics of Interest
Experiences with OO applications that became unmaintainable.
Examples of barriers to software reuse.
Issues in designing for software adaptability.
MOP's and their applications to adaptable designs.
Reducing the instantiation look-ahead of abstractions.
Data-structure-shy behavior.
Design patterns which promote adaptability.
Reuse of functionality other than through inheritance.
Developing adaptable software for concurrent and distributed systems.
