Professor Seif El-Nasr is an interdisciplinary faculty member in the Creative Industries: Game Design and Interactive Media program and has a joint appointment in the College of Computer and Information Science and College of Arts, Media and Design.
Her research integrates computer science, human-computer interaction, software and visual design, and psychology. She focuses on creating tools and methods to enhance the user experience in interactive media productions, such as health-based, educational, and entertainment games, as well as interactive narratives.
Professor Seif El-Nasr has received multiple grants to support her research and several awards and recognition within the scholarly game and interactive narrative communities. She received Best Paper Award at the International Conference of Virtual Storytelling 2003, and her work has been cited in several game industry books, including Programming Believable Characters for Computer Games (Game Development Series) and Real-Time Cinematography for Games. She is the managing editor of the International Journal on Art and Technology and the associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Computational Intelligence and AI in Games. Professor Seif El-Nasr was also the 2011 co-chair of the Games User Research Summit and the International Conference on Entertainment Computing and is the 2012 chair of Foundations of Digital Games. She also has collaborated with several game companies, including Nokia, Electronic Arts, Relic Entertainment, Ignite Play, Bardel Entertainment, and Vidigami.
Professor Seif El-Nasr came to Northeastern from the School of Interactive Arts and Technology at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada, where she was an assistant professor. Earlier, she was an assistant professor in the College of Information Sciences and Technology at Pennsylvania State University.
