Professor Fu holds faculty appointments in both the College of Computer and Information Science and the College of Engineering. Prior to joining Northeastern, he was an assistant professor at the State University of New York in Buffalo.
As a researcher, Professor Fu applies his primary areas of machine learning and cyber-physical systems to health informatics, security, robotics, human–computer interaction, and social networks. His work has merited three best paper awards, including a 2011 award at the IEEE International Conference on Data Mining workshop.
He also has received several research grants, including one from the National Science Foundation to investigate technology to reduce the cost and increase the comfort of knee therapy. Professor Fu was awarded another major grant from the Office of Naval Research to apply manifold learning techniques to large-scale data and provide tools for use in cyber security, social media, and cyber-physical systems.
