New dual majors increase student options

Dual majors give motivated students a chance to increase their skills and their competitiveness in the job market. CCIS is pleased to announce that it now offers 10 dual majors. These 10 dual majors are structured as follows.

  • Dual of Computer Science and Information Science
  • Duals of CS or IS and Business
  • Duals of CS or IS and Cognitive Psychology
  • Duals of CS with the sciences: Mathematics, Physics, or Biology
  • Duals of CS with the digital arts: Multimedia or Music Technology

“The point of dual majors is to give students an opportunity to have solid expertise in a second discipline, and to learn to apply computing to that discipline,” says Professor Richard Rasala, associate dean and director of the undergraduate programs. “Dual majors tend to be among the most challenging programs, so they are attractive to the best students. Having a broad array of programs helps us continue to attract strong students to the college.”

The dual majors with Business, Biology, Multimedia, and Music Technology were all created during 2004-2005. The college already has approximately 70 students in the original dual majors and with the introduction of the new dual majors that population will certainly rise. The college believes that dual majors provide the strongest students with excellent career options or the choice to go to graduate school in either major.
