David Herman, a fourth-year PhD student in CCIS, named to JavaScript committee

David Herman was named to the ECMA committee that is developing the standard for the next generation of JavaScript, a language that is incorporated in every web browser in the world.

Herman is a fourth-year PhD student in CCIS studying with Professor Mitch Wand. He is the only graduate student in the group. Other members include Lars Hansen, who received his PhD from NU CCIS in 2002 under Professor Will Clinger and Cormac Flanagan from the University of California at Santa Cruz who received his PhD from Rice University under Professor Matthias Felleisen, now with NU CCIS.

ECMA is an international industry association dedicated to the standardization of information and communication systems. ECMA coordinates activities with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
