ACM Student Chapter Wins Excellence Award

The College of Computer and Information Science is pleased to announce that the Northeastern University student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery has won the 2005-2006 ACM Excellence Award for Outstanding School Service.

The Outstanding School Service award distinguishes a student chapter that has made significant contributions to their educational institutions through a major project or a series of smaller projects. The Northeastern University student chapter accomplished this through successful projects such as the weekly speaker series, which provides an opportunity for students and faculty to learn about ongoing developments in the computer and information science field. Other successful projects included the CPU program, which provided students with an opportunity to learn about topics such as UNIX and web development from other students and events such as student-faculty receptions, BBQs, and Geek Week.

This year’s award is the third ACM Excellence Award that the chapter has received in four years. As part of the award, the chapter will receive a $500 prize that will be used to help fund upcoming ACM activities and events. Previously, the chapter received ACM Excellence Awards for Outstanding Chapter Activities (2003-2004) and Outstanding Chapter Website (2002-2003).
