
Employer Opportunities for Engagement with Students
Events to engage with students and further your business objectives
At Khoury College, we offer a variety of ways to tap into the talent and expertise of our students. A first step for many potential employers is to participate in or host a virtual or in-person event to engage with students and promote their co-op opportunities.
1. Talent Connect
Talent Connect is Northeastern University’s biannual, university-wide, boutique recruiting event. It enables employers to speak directly with students across all position types, and it is the main venue for employers to connect with undergraduate Khoury co-op searchers.
Talent Connect will be held over three days from October 14–16, featuring both on-campus and virtual sessions. You are welcome to attend any or all days, depending on your recruiting needs and availability.
Who should represent your company: Most companies choose at least two representatives, one of whom must be a technical manager. Many companies bring current or past interns or co-ops, who are great ambassadors. People who are comfortable in a fast-paced online networking environment will most enjoy participating in this event.
2. Brush Up Your Skills: Khoury College’s signature interview practice event series
Brush Up Your Skills is a series of events where employers and alumni volunteer to host mock interviews for students preparing for co-op. This series allows you to connect directly with students at different stages of their co-op journey, some seeking their first position, others building on prior co-op experience. Volunteers may choose to host behavioral or technical interview sessions (or both), with flexibility around timing, date, and structure.
Benefits for employers
Brush Up Your Skills is an opportunity for employers to get a jump start on meeting with co-op seekers, and to “put a face with the name” on resumes. By helping students prepare for the behavioral and technical interview processes, employers showcase their investment in co-op students and programs — which students notice. This is a great opportunity for employers to build a strong brand on campus, increase visibility and generate interest in their co-op roles, and proactively identify candidates who are a good fit for their company and co-op positions.
Process for connecting with students
Employer or alumni volunteers can select a date and time that works for them, and we will promote it to all Khoury undergraduate students searching for a co-op job. All sessions are currently held virtually.
When you indicate interest via our employer events form, we’ll reach out to connect with you. If you’d like to meet to discuss this event, we’re happy to set up a time. Otherwise, we’ll share with you the available dates throughout the semester, and you can indicate the date(s) and time(s) that work for you.
We will set up a sign-up sheet for students interested in joining, opening the sheet for students to sign up the week before the event. We will share with you the names, emails, and majors of the students joining you 24 hours before your event. Students will be asked to have their resume ready during the interview, and we will share a virtual call-in/video link with them before the session.
Technical and behavioral interview sessions details
Technical interview sessions: If you’d like to host a session about types of technical interviews and/or tips and tricks for preparing for these types of interviews, we advise small groups for practicing — 15 students per session at most. Most employer hosts have practice sessions lasting at least 25 to 30 minutes, and up to an hour. Hosts who are running small group sessions might choose to hold two sessions over the course of an hour, 25 minutes each with a five-minute break in between. We encourage you to provide the opportunity for students to ask questions, to work through a problem on their own, and to explain their thinking, and for you to provide feedback for those in the session.
Behavioral interview sessions: Students sign up for a 15- to 20-minute one-on-one session with a company representative to practice common behavioral interview questions (“Tell me about yourself,” “Please describe a situation when…”). The employer or alumni representative can also review the student’s resume or let them try out asking questions.

3. Employer panel for co-op students
During these events, employers join a class session (mostly virtual but also in person if preferred) to participate in co-op panel discussions to help students gain a better understanding of career paths and the job search process, including answering questions about resumes, interviews (behavioral and technical), and what makes a candidate successful. Employers help students, typically Khoury undergraduates searching for their first co-ops and enrolled in our Professional Development for Khoury Co-op class, prepare for their co-op searches while promoting their company and the unique employment opportunities offered.
Dates and logistics: Multiple virtual panel dates are available to join throughout the spring semester. A member of the Khoury co-op team will contact you to discuss logistics; all sessions are hosted virtually.
Who should represent your company: Most companies choose as participants an HR professional, team leader, software engineer, senior data scientist, or security engineer who enjoys helping students prepare for their co-op search. Participants should be familiar with the hiring process, frequently asked questions, and characteristics that are important for success.
4. Employer Treks and Employer-in-Residence
We invite you to connect with talented and motivated students from Northeastern through two signature engagement programs called Employer Treks and Employer-in-Residence. These opportunities are designed to strengthen your organization’s visibility on campus while giving students valuable exposure to your company, industry, and career pathways.
Employer Treks
Host a group of students at your workplace or virtually to showcase your company’s culture, projects, and career opportunities. Treks typically include:
- An overview of your organization and mission
- A panel discussion or networking session with employees and alumni
- A tour of your workplace (in-person treks) or a virtual walk-through (online treks)
Benefit to employers: Build brand awareness with future talent, share insights about career paths at your organization, and engage directly with students interested in your field.
Employer-in-Residence
Spend time on campus (or virtually) meeting one-on-one or in small groups with students. This flexible program allows you to:
- Provide career advice and industry insights
- Share information about your organization’s hiring needs
- Offer resume critiques, mock interviews, or informal networking conversations
Benefit to employers: Build relationships with students in a personalized setting while identifying strong potential candidates for current and future openings.
How to get involved
Employers can sign up for one or both programs, depending on your engagement goals. Our team will work with you to coordinate logistics, promote your event to students, and ensure a meaningful experience for all.
