COOP job at Adobe turns into Full-time Offer
- Kaitlyn Hanrahan of Northeastern University is a good student. She does not just want to be,
she knows that she has to be. As a young woman in the male dominated field of computer and information
science, Hanrahan has taken advantage of Northeastern’s experiential education model to add
real-life work experience to her studies. The senior knew her efforts paid off when Adobe
Systems, Inc. asked her to join the company upon graduation.
- Virtual Nurse Developed by Professor Tim Bickmore Undergoes Testing at Boston Medical Center
- A recent Mass High Tech article describes plans by Boston Medical Center to test
the virtual nurse technology developed by Professor Tim Bickmore as
a means of reducing costs and improving patient care during patient discharges.

- Mitchell Wand, Professor in Northeastern's College of Computer and
Information Science, has been selected as a Fellow of the Association
for Computing Machinery.
- CCIS Senior Tanya Cashorali Wins Honorable Mention in CRA Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award Program
- CCIS senior Tanya Cashorali was awarded an honorable mention in the
Computing Research Association (CRA) Outstanding Undergraduate Awards
Program. The CRA is an association of more than 200 North American
academic departments of computer science, computer engineering, and
related fields; laboratories and centers in industry, government, and
academia engaging in basic computing research .
- PhD student Jun Gong wins first place in ASSETS 2007 Student Research
Competition
- Jun Gong, a Ph.D. student in the College of Computer and Information
Science won first place in the ASSETS 2007 Student Research
Competition. The ACM Student Research Competition is run by the
Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and sponsored by Microsoft
Research. In the first round of this competition, students submit
short paper to an ACM conference their field. Selected students
receive a travel stipend to attend the conference where they present
a poster on their work. Winning students receive cash prizes and are
invited compete in the Student Research Competition Grand Finals.
- Cracking the Cube
- CCIS graduate student Daniel Kunkle has developed computer algorithms
demonstrating that a Rubik's Cube in any configuration can be solved
in 26 steps. He says the methods he worked out with advisor Professor Gene Cooperman "can be applied to any combinatorial problem that you want to solve. Such problems could range from ascertaining how proteins will fold to scheduling air flights to playing checkers or chess.
