HOWTO Documents > Tunneling (port forwarding) with SSH Secure Shell Client (Windows)
Important Notes: a secure SSH tunnel only works while you maintain a connection to CCIS using SSH. If you disconnect from us or quit the SSH program, your tunnel is no longer operative. Although this document focuses on the use of the SSH Secure Shell Client there are other SSH clients for Windows that will also allow tunneling.
SSH Client Configuration
Here's all you have to do to configure your SSH Client:
• Under the edit
menu select Settings and then under Profile Settings select Tunneling:

Make sure that you have the "Tunnel X11 connections" option checked to enable passing X based traffic.
• If you want to
tunnel outgoing mail so that you can use the CCIS mail server to send mail
from outside of the College you will need to add an Outgoing Tunnel:
• You will want
to name this something that will make sense to you. What follows are the settings
that you should use. Be sure to leave "Allow Local Connections Only" checked,
as you will not want to enable other computers to use your computer's tunnel.

• Once this is
done the settings dialog box should look something like this:

• If you also use
POP to retrieve your mail you can set up a tunnel for that as well. Simply
repeat the steps above with the following settings:

You can repeat this for as many services as you might want to tunnel.
