Erik Bruhn
was the professional name of Belton Evers (1928-1986), the Danish dancer known for his dramatic power and purity of style. Born in Copenhagen, he studied and danced with the Royal Danish Ballet, becoming a soloist in 1949. In 1967-1972 he was director of the Royal Swedish Ballet. In 1973 he became assistant director and in 1983 artistic director of the National Ballet of Canada. Bruhn staged his own versions of La Sylphide (1964) and other classical ballets and coauthored Bournonville and Ballet Technique (1961).
