Personal Profile
Brief Introduction:
As I have said earlier, I am currently working at
Teradyne, Inc. as an
Information Technologist. At work, I write SQL reports, and sometimes I
modify SQL reports that other people have written, create Access
macros to import data into the tables, write VBA functions in
Excel, and also adminitor a software called OnTrack for Training. Recentely,
I was sent to a ColdFusion training class. After that training, I truly
fell in love with this language. I have been asked to find ways to create
charts in ColdFusion, in any way that will be possible. I have no idea how
to do so, but if you happen to know, don't hesitate to tell me. Thanks in
advance!
Before graduating, I participated in NU's co-op program. For my last
co-op position, I worked at Netmarket in Cambridge. It used to be known as
Cendant Internet Engineering. For the time I have worked there, I have created
and implemented PL/SQL codes (stored
procedures), created query pages for most of the stored procedures, and
wrote NML codes to parse the output from the procedures to HTML
format.
I finished my second co-op assignment 1998's Spring quarter. I worked at
Aspen Technology, Inc. as a
Software Engineer. I started working there since April 11, 1997, and I
worked 'til the end of June, officially. I also worked there as a part-time
til the end of September. My boss wanted me to continued on the old project
I was working on before. This job was a little bit similar to my last
co-op assignment, C programming. The tasks were not hard, but could make
me very frastrated, because I continued on a project someone has started
before, and I have to finish up what hasn't been done yet. :P~ I never
took Fortran before, but on this job, I had to translate some Frotran
programs to C. *yuck* Fortran program styles are much different from C,
so I have to struggle through the way. I wish they were written in
Pascal, but oh well...
My Big Trip
After working at Teradyne for about 3 months, I took 3 weeks off. For those
3 weeks, I went back to China and Hong Kong for a visit. I also visited
Singapore, Malysia, and Marcao. I joined a tour group to visit Beijing, the
capital of China. The tour lasted for 5 days. I got to visit The Great
Wall. >>:) The stairs were so steep...... Kind of windy up there, but
since I went there in late September, it was still pretty warm. People at
Beijing must be very afraid of coldness, cuz my friends and I were in T-shirts
and they were in sweaters already! The most memorable part of the Beijing
tour were the public bathrooms. They were called "public" bathrooms, BUT
you have to pay a fee to use them, and the worst of all, they don't provide
you with ANY toilet papers. :P~ Luckily, we were all smart enough to bring
our own tissues. The bathrooms were very stinky and dirty too. Of course,
if you go to use the hotels' bathroom, they would be clear.
After the Beijing tour, we joing another tour group to visit Singapore and
Malysia. We only stayed in Singapore for half a day, but can't say whether
I like that country or not. We stayed in Malysia for a few days. We stayed
in some of the best hotels there. We tooks a lot of pictures. My sister
and I alone took 43 rolls of films through out the entire 3 weeks! We even
took pictures of all the hotels we have stayed, for memories.
During the stays in Hong Kong and Marcao, we didn't go to that many tourist
sights. We spent most our time shopping like crazy! We pretty much shopped
'til we dropped. We bought so much stuff in one night that our arms would
hurt. Shopping in HK was fun, but the air there was too stuffed. We could
hardly feel any breeze there...... It was like summer there, so we all
sweated like pigs. :P~ Marcao was better. We could feel so cool breezes
there. Must be that it is close to the ocean. It was good that we didn't
get to stay at these 2 places too long, cuz if we stayed any longer, we
would go REALLY broke for buying too much.
My First Co-op Experience
As I have said earlier, there is a co-op program availabe in my
school. I have finished my first co-op term on 3/20/96 if you don't know,
and the second one on 12/27/96. Usually, one co-op assignment ends in two
co-op terms. But if you like that company, you can continue your next
co-op assignment at the same place, or change to another assignment. Wow!
What an experience. It was fun, but the bad thing about my job was that I
had to get up VERY EARLY in the morning. How does starting work at 7:45AM
sound to you? *yuck!* That's right, yuck! But it was worth it. I did my
first co-op assignment at Mitre Corporation, locates at Bedford,
Massachusets. My job title was Software Developer. I had a chance to do
a variety of tasks there, include 1) set up a web server, 2) created the
department homepage, 3) built 3D computer graphics Models, 4) Sybase
(installation and product testing), 5) ObjecTime (installation and
upgrade), 6) change the cursor size on a SGI machine and a Sun Solaris, 7)
Created a situation display widget using X Intrinsics in C. I finished
the first 6 tasks in less than three months! Then at the second co-op
term, which was six months long, I spent most of my time in creating a
situation display widget using the X Intrinsics in C programming language.
The time frame was small, but I managed to finished most of the tasks. :)
Wish me luck in school. (Thanks to those people who did wished me luck.
*wink*)
Hobbies
I like to read a lot of books(not school books, of course), watch TV,
play some sports and hang out with my friends. I love to read mysteries,
comedy, Kung Fu stories and romance books. That goes the same for the
kind of TV shows and movies I like to watch. As for sports, I like a
variety of them, except that I don't have much time to play them. The
sports that I like are badminton, table tennis, tennis, hockey, soccer,
and baseball. I rather play them than watch the games. I hate watching
the games. They put me to sleep. But that wouldn't happen if I am part
of the game. *hehe*
There aren't that many fun places around Boston, so I don't have many
places to hang out with my friends. Usaully, we just go the movies, go
shopping (one of my favorites), bowling, play pool (yea, that's fun!), and
other stuff. Do you have any ideas of good places to hang out? I would
love to know if you do. *grin* My current favorite hobby is play pool.
>>:) I liked to play pool before, but my skill was very poor, so I didn't
"fall in love" with it. But due to a strong influence from one of my
friends (we like to call him "bolobau" *wink*), I "fell in love" with
pool. The place that we usually go to play pool is Boston Billiard. It
is located near Boston University. It is not a very big place, but it is
neat and the people are nice. =)
