	Wand, Mitchell I'm the instructor in this class. I got my Ph.D. from MIT in 1973, and I've been at Northeastern since 1985. When I'm not thinking about programming languages, this class, or other CS-related things, I play jazz piano and dote on my three granddaughters.

	Dong, Xin I'm a third-year PhD student and I work on system and parallel computing. I got BS from Math department of Fudan University and MS from CS department of Jiaotong University. Both schools are in Shanghai, China.

	Ahmed, Abdelmeged I'm a second year PhD student in the programming languages laboratory. I'm originally from Alexandria, Egypt. I'm into reading and watching movies.
	Bayraktaroglu, Emrah I'm a second year PhD student in the 2nd floor. I'm interested in Wireless Networks for now. I have classical hobbies like reading, watching movies, swimming, soccer...etc And my hometown is Ankara, Turkey.
	Bishal, Thapa I am a third year Ph.D. student working in NU Wireless Security Lab. My advisor is Dr. Guevara Noubir. I love Mathematics, Poetry, Music and Basketball. I come from Kathmandu, Nepal and am very proud of my culture and heritage.
	Blumm, Nick This is my second year as a PhD student in Laszlo Barabasi's group. I grew up in Michigan. I have led hiking trips in the Canadian Rockies, taught English in Tokyo, studied mime in Paris, and worked in a Russian clown show.
	Brown, Dan I'm a first-year phd student studying programming languages. I come from Texas, where I lived for a long time and studied computing and math. When I find free time, I like reading, taking pictures, and traveling.
	Chambers, Ben I'm a first year PhD student in the Programming Languages group. I got my B.Sc in Computer Science from Georgia Tech. I've done some work in abstract interpretation for static analysis, but I'm not sure what direction I actually want to go while I'm at NEU. In my free time I like to read and play keyboard.
	Chaubey, Abhishek I am in my second year. My research is primarily in Algorithms and Networks. I am part of Network Security and Distributed Computing group. Prior to joining NEU, I worked for Oracle and Pine Labs for couple of years back in India. I did my B.Tech. in Computer Science from IIT Guwahati. In my free time I watch Bollywood movies and play racquetball.
	Christine, Hang I'm a third-year PhD student in the PRL, originally from Beijing and Michigan. I am interested in PL, especially domain specific languages, and I've always wanted to solve hard problems in other fields via PL. Aside from school, I enjoy traveling, reading, taking pictures and collecting scarves.
	Dai, Keshi I'm a second year PhD student in the HCI lab. My work focuses on speech processing including early vocalization analysis and emotion recognition. I'm also interested in image processing and computer vision. I'm from Hangzhou, China, which is a beautiful city and has a thousand-year history. In my free time, I like playing soccer, traveling, watching movies, and taking pictures.
	Duan, Jingjing I'm a second-year PhD student working with Prof. Rajaraman in the Networking group. In my spare time I listen to music, watch movies, and play basketball.
	He, Kewei I am a first-year PhD student at Networking and Distributed Computing group. I got my bachelor's degree at Zhejiang University, China. My current research interests are Algorithms and Networks. In my spear time, I prefer watching movies and sports events. By the way I am a big fan of Apple :D
	Hu, Ling Hi, I am Ling Hu and currently in my second year of PhD study. I work with Prof. Zhang in DB lab. I like programming but not expert on it. I am experienced with data warehouse and databases.
	Javaheri, Hooman I am second year PhD. student in the Networking and Distributed Computing group. I got my B.Sc. in electrical Engineering. My current research is focused on cooperative networks and smart antennas. My extracurricular activities are photography, graphic design and caricature. :)
	Jian, Wen I am Jian Wen from China, first year PhD student in DB lab(second year in NU, since I was a master student last year). I like something related to mind and behavior. In idle time I always play TV games, , or watch movies, or basketball, or just sleep...zzzzzzz...
	Jin, Tao I am 2nd year Ph.D. student in the Networking and Distributed Computing group. I am from Tianjin, China, a coastal city pretty much like Boston. My current research focus is on wireless ad hoc networks. I am also quite interested in information retrieval, haven't got chance to actively work on that though. Oh right, I love coding...I love reading, movie and traveling once I have chance. I am thinking about doing cross US road trip again some day. You are more than welcome to join.
	Laura, Poplawski This is my second year at Northeastern, but I've been working on my PhD since 2004 (I started at UCLA). My research is in approximation and online algorithms (and some game theory). I'm on a leave-of-absence from IBM Global Services and currently work part time at Akamai. I generally spend my free time hiking, skiing, and quilting, but I also like duplicate bridge and playing the piano. I just bought a house in Somerville and am getting married next July, so this year I'm really spending most of free time on wedding planning and home improvements.
	Pfeifer, Laura I'm a second-year phd student working in the HCI lab and am part of the Relational Agents Group. I'm originally from Minnesota and shamelessly refer to soda as pop.
	Slavici, Vlad I am in the Systems group and interested in large space enumeration problems and computational algebra, but I am also interested in other domains of CS, without being actively involved: algorithms, information retrieval, graphic interfaces, human-computer interaction. My hobbies are reading about great mathematicians and mathematical theories, music of the 80s, 90s, indie, Romanian music, pop culture, urban culture - especially in Bucharest, science-fiction and mystery literature, playing and watching tennis, Le Tour de France cycling, snooker, playing ping-pong.
	Sun, Zhifeng I am Zhifeng Sun, a 2nd year Ph.D student in the Networking Group. In general, I am interested in algorithm design, approximation and combinatorics. But I like programming too. I've done quite some work in C++, and I like it very much. That's why I was very excited when I saw both Bjarne Stroustrup and Scott Meyers last summer. Hopefully by the end of this semester, I will have the same feeling about PPL.
	Tan, San I am the third year PhD student in network group. I worked in a company for a while after I graduated, and found that I enjoy the freedom in school. So I came back to collge for PhD degree. I spent my spare time on playing soccer(kinda good), travelling around the world (always in m y dream) and reading stories (the main reason that I wear eye glasses).
	Turon, Aaron I'm a first year PhD student in the PRL. My undergrad degree is from the University of Chicago, in Computer Science. Outside of CS, I write music (electronica), read novels, watch movies, and sometimes talk philosophy. I am happily married and have two cats.
	Visan, Ana Maria My name is Ana-Maria Visan. I am a 2nd year PhD student from the Systems group. I got my BSc from Politehnica University of Bucharest, Romania.
	Yin, Langxuan I'm a first year phd student in the HCI lab. I'm from Beijing, China. I love fantasy and play Dungeons & Dragons. My hobbies also include reading and painting. My limited readings focus on philosophy, while my paintings are mostly manga style."
	Yu, Jia I am a second-year Ph.D. Student. When I am not doing something related to computer science, I like watching movies, reading and traveling. I would like to find more connection between me and the world.
	Zheng, Tianhua I'm Tianhua Zheng, second year Ph.D student from the database group. I'm from the northeast part of China, which is as cold as in Boston. I like tennis and basketball, though I'm not quite good at them:-) Is there anyone wanna be my game partner? just drop in at 472 WVH.
	Zhou, Feng I am a first year PhD student in the PRL group. Before coming to Northeastern I was working on compilers (mostly on back-end optimizations) in China. I used to use C/C++ and some script languages and I'm new to functional programming.
