Some poems (I hope)

It seems like everybody's putting some of their poetry up on the web. I'm not quite convinced about putting my own up; it took me a long time to decide to give it a try. But I've written some over the years, when the mood has struck me. Some of it, I'm even almost happy with.

Leaning (against the wall)
This is perhaps my favorite.
Helen
Since I wrote this, I've wanted to expand it, write some more stanzas. I'm not completely thrilled with it, but it has its moments, I think.
Thiggy!
This is just plain silly. It was my spontaneous reaction to Thigpen's arrival in Ken's treehut on JHM one day.
Haiku
As they teach it to you in elementary school, haiku is pretty easy to write. (Mine haven't really gotten any more sophisticated since then, either.) I woke up one January morning with a poem about autumn complete in my head, and almost a year later wrote winter. I plan to finish the seasons one of these days...
Daffodils
I spent three months touring Europe with a choir I'm in in the spring of 1996. While we were in England, I met Rosemary Jane Setford. I found myself enthralled, and inspired: I wrote the first poems I'd attempted in about two years. This is my favorite; I might even like it better than Leaning.

Some prose

Prose is, I think, easier to write than poetry. I'm not sure excellent prose is any easier to write than excellent poetry, but I am pretty sure I've never achieved either; I just know my prose feels less affected to me than my poetry often does.
