The problem is, Bill apparently does realize that he's down, and is using
this newsgroup as a place to act out, for (stated) reasons that don't even
make sense.  Pity only cuts a person so much slack.

As for ungraciousness, to understand that, I suggest you engage Bill in a
technical discussion (off-group!)  Bill possesses some unique skills when it
comes to teaching his correspondents that they're not saints.
