The Sympton Checker allows the elderly to browse thru health information that he /she may be currently experiencing. The main screen shows a human body that are separated into different sections: head, arms, body, and legs. When the mouse is moved over the certain body parts, the color of the body part changes to indi cate to the user the selected part. If, for instance, the head is chosen, it wi ll bring the user to another screen where the body part is further divided into different sections. The section also changes color when the mouse moves over it . Clicking on the specific body part will bring the user to another screen that lists the possible symptoms of the body part. The user will then be able to see which sympton matches the targetted health condition. After choosing the particular symptoms, a list of possible conditions is shown to the user. When the user selects a particular condition, it will bring him/her to a more detailed page about that condition.
This interface serves as a home page in the elderly's computer to help in communicating with other family members. Four main functions are available: Email; Photos; Video; and Live. In Email, there are two choices - 'New' (does not exist if there is nothing new); and 'Write to'. The picture allows for easier identification. The Photos and Video function allow the user to view New or Saved Photos/Videos with a single click. The Live function shows the people who are online or offline which is similar to an Instant Messaging feature. The user can click on a person who is online and then chooses to call, IM, or have a video conference with him/her (not shown). Some functionalities such as uploading photos or videos are omitted because of the complexity of the process.
The mobile device is a touch screen device. The main screen contains the numeric pad and four buttons to call, end a call, get voicemail, and browse for contacts. The top bar shows the number and/or the name of the person he/she is calling. Clicking on 'Call' will call the phone number that was entered. Clicking on 'End' will end or cancel an action. Clicking on 'Voice Mail' will call the voicemail directly. Clicking on 'Contacts' will bring the user to the second screen where the user is shown with the pictures and names of the current contacts. The alphabets on the top allow the user to search more efficiently if the name is known. Otherwise, the user can click the Back or Next button to browse thru the contacts one by one. Once a picture is chosen, it will immediately call the person that was chosen.
