THE PROBLEM
Based on a survey we observed that the patients in the Geriatrics Center have a waiting period on about 15 minutes and have about 10 minutes of leisure time that they could utilize. If asked what would be best for them , the majority replied "Something that they could learn new and incorporate in their daily schedule as well", as they are trying to find something new to do for the daily routine.
The common problem faced, senior patients in the waiting room do not find any activity motivating enough to participate in while they wait. While there are arrangements to add to their leisure, those activities can sometimes frustrate them and result in non-ability to make the most of their hospital visit. Their goal is pretty simple, try to stay fit and learn somehting new without much effort. We attempt to solve this problem by giving them basic health exercise that they could perform or learn and incorporate in their daily lives.
TARGET USERS
SOLUTION
The goal of our solution is to develop an application that the patient can identify with, while waiting in the room, and can extract information which would be helpful when talking to the physician as well as increase the health conciousness for himself in a non-interfering manner.
We propose to build an application to be deployed on the touch screen kiosk in the waiting room, that can provide the user, information about various common exercises he/she can practice at home, common physical problems with different body parts, general nutrition information, deficiencies and common cures. Our system will help the user to better understand his health problem by aiding both "recall" as well as "recognization". The patient can then articulate his problem in a better way to his physician, can understand the physician's solution in a better way and can also take this information home to make a part of his daily life.
The interface that we envision is as shown below:

The main screen is divded into 2 parts
- The Left Side:
It contains 2 images of the human body, one front facing and one back. The user can touch any body part on either of the two images which will take him to another screen. This second screen will display common possible physical exercises for that body part, common problems associated with that body part, the cause and common cures for the problem.
- The Right Side:
It contains large buttons with one each for General Nutrition Information, Common Diseases Information and Contacts for Physical Therapists within that hospital.
