Some clarifications on the terminology used in some of the questions
in PS2.
(1) The term "ack", used in Problems 1 and 4, refers to the request
frames sent by the receiver.
(2) In Problem 1, the bandwidth of the link is not specified. You may
make your own assumption about the bandwidth, e.g., 1 unit/s. Assume
that all the packets are received without delays. Thus, if the
bandwidth is 1 unit/s, a 1 unit packet is received in 1s. Also, you
may ignore timeouts.
(3) In Problem 3, the bit error rate is given and not the frame error
rate. The frame has an error whenever at least one of the bits has an
error. Recall the assumption that all errors are detected.
(4) In Problem 3(b), you may assume that n = 7.
(5) In Problem 4, the "ack timer" being 1 unit long means that the
receiver sends an ack (request) frame every unit.
(6) In Problem 8, the last sentence should say "the M/M/1/N" queue
rather than "the M/M/1" queue.
