Has digital rights management (DRM) failed for the U.S. music industry? What implications does this have for the European music industry and the U.S. movie industry? Was Ithiel de Sola Pool correct in his argument in his 1983 book Technologies of Freedom that freedom of speech would prevail over copyright? If no, what do you think is the reason music companies are abandoning DRM for downloaded songs? If yes, why is the RIAA still suing music downloaders and why does the MPAA still want the broadcast flag? What about DRM for books?
