Syllabus
This reserach course covers various aspects of cloud systems security. It starts with a series of lectures covering the two sides of cloud security:
- Theory: developments in cryptography to enable secure cloud systems. This include multi-party computation, private information retrieval, oblivious RAM, garbled circuits, etc.
- Systems: side channel attacks in multi-tenant cloud systems, Intel new extensions to support secure cloud computing e.g., software guard extensions (SGX), MPX, SHA, etc.
There will be projects covering the spectrum of theory and systems. For instance, students interested in applied security can reproduce some recent results on side channel attacks, or learn how to develop secure applications within SGX enclaves. Students who are more interested in theory, can research and implement some of the crypto primitives and benchmark them. Practical assignment will be on a cloud server tested.
