CCIS Crew Projects
"Crew" is the volunteer systems group at the Northeastern University College of Computer Science. Crew is typically comprised of 15-20 students who better the community at the college by performing any tasks needed by the system administrators and by working on projects that benefit the college or community. You can read about the many projects that Crew is involved in at the Crew webpage. My involvement in Crew thus far is as follows.
- Trac Server Project
The objective of this project is to create a mechanism for the college to provide its students with an area to work and collaborate on projects with revision control. Revision control is done with subversion, and ticket/progress tracking system is to be provided by Trac. As part of the project, we need to develop scripts to allow students to apply for project space, and for the administration and maintenance of projects. All services are to be built on the Solaris operating system. Additional solutions being used include Apache Web Server, PHP, MySQL, and perl. - Replacement Authentication System
Investigated, tested, and implemented a production LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) server using Sun Microsystems' Java Enterprise Directory Server for the Solaris operating system. Goals for this project included creating a test environment to ensure compatibility of with existing infrastucture, creating tools to facilitate the migration and syncronization of data between the new LDAP server and the existing NIS server, and to build the production server that would be used for authentication services at the college. Scripts were written using perl.
Personal Projects
The following is a sampling of the projects that I have worked on outside of a classroom environment.
- Creating personal websites to experiment with cascading style sheets and xhtml.
- Developed website for Sachem High School Career Development, implementing the Typo3 content management system. Typo3 includes an easy to use administrative interface for controlling almost every aspect of the website. Also developed a method for staff to easily include PDF's of lesson plans in a certain page.
- Developed a website, extended physical network, and implemented a backup routine for Fist Judicial Claim Service, Inc. [ Link ]
