From jeffc@ccs.neu.eduFri Jul 19 11:35:40 1996 Date: Wed, 29 May 1996 17:57:02 -0400 (EDT) From: "Jeffrey B. Carpenter" To: k2000@american.edu Subject: VPCD#3 V.A.S.T. Programmers Challenge Directive #3 - May, 1996. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This months sponsors: Chuck Surack, Sweetwater Sound (American Standard CD-ROM) First Place Larry Ketchell, Young Chang America (Various) Second, Third Place Many, many thanks to Chuck, Larry and their companies! Due to their continued support, the VPC is going strong! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This months topic was submitted by : Yash Nursinghdass This is an attempt to emulate one of the features found on the Korg WaveStation. Vector Synthesis. There is no difficulty in emulating vector synthesis at all. The joystick found on WS keyboards is just a controller with two axes : x and y. Simulating the joystick therefore entails using two realtime controllers on the K2000 (Modulation Wheel and Data Slider). One is used as a source on one or more parameters. The other is set to control other parameters of the same program. The simultaneous use of both controllers is similar to selecting a point in a cartesian coordinate system, which the joystick enables you to do. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please limit your program as follows: Algorithm: any (please reference your manual for a complete listing) Samples: internal stock ROM only (custom edits of those samples are acceptable) Keymap: (Choose 1 from each group for each layer) Group 1 1 Grand Piano 2 Dual Elec Piano 3 Hard Elec Piano 4 Soft Elec Piano 114 Elec Piano Wave 188 Syn Piano Group 2 7 Elec Jazz Guitar 8 Acoustic Guitar 9 5-String Guitar 173 Shift Guitar 2 181 Shift Guitar 182 Syn Guitar Group 3 122 Organ Wave 1 123 Organ Wave 2 124 Organ Wave 3 125 Organ Wave 4 126 Organ Wave 5 127 Organ Wave 6 Group 4 10 Dual E Bass 12 Elec Slap Bass 151 Sawtooth 154 Square Wave 163 Sine Wave 180 Syn Bass Slap # of Layers: exactly 4 Effect: (Choose 1 of the following) 7 Opera House (Ultimate Reverb) 8 Live Chamber (Room Simulator) 20 Full Bass (Chorus+Delay+Room+Mixer) 35 Chorus Delay (Parametric EQ+Chorus+Delay+Mixer) 102 Chorus Echoverb (EQ+Chorus+4 Tap Delay+Mixer) 108 Predelay Hall (Delay+Hall+Mixer) (custom effect programs are not acceptable, at this time) Control Sources: (the following are the minimum your program should support) 0,33 Mono Pressure (MPress) 1 Modulation Wheel (MWheel) 6 Data Slider (Data) 35 Pitch Wheel (PWheel) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALL ENTRIES MUST INCLUDE A TEXT FILE DESCRIBING THE PROGRAM. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All entries are due no later than 23:59:59 (EST) on June 23, 1996 (about a month from today).
