Note, February 9th: I've added the first diagram handed in to the bottom of the page as an example of an interesting diagram, a 512x397 jpeg. (From Science, 28 May 2003, pg. 2005). The diagram given to me by the student wasn't quite up to the resolution I needed, so I shot a larger one, a 782x572 png, from the PDF and have attached it below the one I was sent. I created it by using the Adobe Reader 6.0 snapshot tool and then pasting to Photoshop and saving as a png. So be sure to get a nice high-resolution image. If it's impossible, look for a diagram that does allow higher resolution. Some HTML versions of journal articles offer very high resolution figures, upwards of 2000x3000 -- those are the ones I'm interested in if you can find them. You can also send me a modest size version plus an enormous one, when you can find them. Here's an example of a very large diagram.
In this assignment, spread over two weeks, you are to find two diagrams plus ancilarry information. Examples can be found in our Diagrams.org galleries page.
The goal is to find primarily schematic 2D diagrams, not drawings of complex 3D scenes (like the mice/engine one). Our goal is more things that abstract from complex information.
