Notes:
To obtain a patent in your invention, you must prepare and file a patent application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
What’s in the application?
A description of what your invention is and how it functions.
Some figures, called drawings, and
some claims, basically succinct paragraphs setting forth exactly what it is you invented
1. New function or new ways to achieve old functions-- Better faster cheaper and so forth.
2. Avoid infringement--Patent things that you don’t want your competitors to be doing
3. Commercially valuable--Patent things that others will pay you to do. That’s called a royalty
4. Easily detect infringement
