Officer Profiles

Elizabeth Brown

Title: President
Year: Senior
Major: Computer Science and Information Science

Where you've co-oped:
  1. Novartis Pharmaceuticals, Bioinformatics Co-op
  2. Intuit, Software Engineering Co-op
  3. InsightSquared, Python Developer
Why you chose CS/IS: I attended a CS summer program for ONLY girls entering 9th grade that was taught by CS majors at Brown University called The Artemis Project. I was very inspired by the women teaching me various CS topics for 5 weeks that summer. I decided then that I would study CS when I got to college and have loved every minute resulting from that decision!

Favorite CS/IS class: Fundamentals 1. This is the class you take your first semester and it does an amazing job of setting you up for future classes and jobs. Every co-op I've had to learn a new programming language, but that isn't hard because Fundamentals 1 taught me how to think about programming, not just how to program in a specific language. I am really looking forward to Information Systems Design and Development as well as Software Development this semester, so I might have a different answer to this come December!

Favorite way to waste time: Reading fantasy novels or marathoning tv shows

Alison Leibowitz

Title: Vice President
Year: Junior
Major: Information Science and Business

Where you've co-oped:
  1. Northeastern University, eCommunications Co-op
  2. MFS Investment Management, Web Business Analyst
Why you chose CS/IS: I have always been fascinated by the ways technology has made my life easier. I wanted to study ways to take these same principles and learn how to apply them on a larger scale.

Favorite CS/IS class: IS 3500, Information Systems Design and Development. This class was a lot of work, but I use what I learned in this class every day at my co-op. Turns out all of those hours spent doing homework and projects really paid off!

Favorite way to waste time: Watch every Harry Potter movie for the billionth time

Alison Green

Title: Co-Public Relations Chair
Year: Senior
Major: Computer and Information Science

Where you've co-oped:
  1. Smarter Travel Media LLC
  2. Intuit
  3. InsightSquared
Why you chose CS/IS: I fell in love with programming in High School, when I decided to take an Intro to C Programming class. It was so fun to figure out puzzles and made me want to continue my education through college. It is such an exciting field to be a part of!

Favorite CS/IS class: Software Development, Information System Design and Development

Favorite way to waste time:Reading, Movies, and playing Videogames

Rose DeMaio

Title: Co-Public Relations Chair
Year: Middler
Major: Computer Science and Communications

Where you've co-oped:
  1. Viridian Spark
Why you chose CS/IS: I always knew I would end up in a technical field, and CS is unique in providing a flexible, lucrative, and exciting degree.

Favorite CS/IS class: Fundies 1H! As a true classic, how could you not love this class? It was my first taste of programming and although it was challenging, (finally) figuring the code out and getting the work done felt great. Plus, the support of TAs and professors was amazing, and even during co-op, I found myself leaning back on some of our earliest lessons.

Favorite way to waste time: Watching and re-watching my favorite Saturday Night Live sketches online.

Alex Williams

Title: Outreach Chair
Year: Middler
Major: Information Science and Business Administration

Where you've co-oped:
  1. Winslow Technology Group
Why you chose CS/IS: I am incredibly interested in the real-world applications of technology. I want to help businesses become more effective through the implementation of new software and hardware.

Favorite CS/IS class: Principles of Information Science. This was the first class I was genuinely excited to go to. It was the perfect combination of technology and business, and solidified that this is the field I want to pursue.

Favorite way to waste time: I love to go for walks and get lost in Boston. I can spend hours wandering around the city with no clear destination.
