APPLICATION MATERIALS
AND INSTRUCTIONS
Deadlines: All application
materials for admission for full-time, part-time, and Special Student Status must be received by the College of Computer and Information Science no later than:
For Fall 2004 Semester admission for U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents August 31, 2004
For Spring 2005 Semester admission for International Applicants September
1, 2004
For Spring 2005 Semester admission for U.S. Citizens or Permanent
Residents October
30, 2004
Note: An international applicant is classified as anyone who is
not a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
Applications that become complete after the published deadlines will automatically be deferred to the next available semester for admission without exception.
Required
Materials: Applicants must submit the
following items without exception.
1. A signed, completed application form.
2. A $50.00 non-refundable application fee in the form of a check payable to Northeastern University.
(Check must be drawn on a U.S. bank). No application will be processed until this fee is paid.
3.
Official transcripts from all colleges/universities
attended (indicating degree(s) earned, if applicable), mailed directly from the
institution to the College of Computer and Information Science. (Photocopies are not acceptable).
4. A typed 250-300 word personal statement, explaining the applicantÌs goals and reasons for undertaking graduate study in computer science. If the applicant feels that the application items submitted do no adequately reflect his or her abilities, these discrepancies should be discussed as well.
5.
Three letters of recommendation
mailed directly by the writers. These letters should be from the people who are
most familiar with the applicantÌs abilities and expertise. (Letters submitted by applicants themselves
are not acceptable.)
6.
An
official score report of the
applicantÌs GRE General Examination, mailed
to us directly by the Educational Testing Service. (Photocopies or reports submitted by applicants are not acceptable.)
7. *An official score report of the applicantÌs TOEFL examination, mailed directly by the Educational Testing Service. The Test of Written English (TWE) is encouraged. (Photocopies or reports submitted by applicants are not acceptable.)
*TOEFL must be taken by all applicants,
whose native language is not English, regardless of visa or educational status.
Notes
1.
New
students are considered for assistantships for the Fall semester. Incomplete
applications or applications received after January 15th will be considered for
a graduate assistantship only after all
other applications have been considered.
2. Applications that become complete after the published deadlines will automatically be considered for the next available quarter for admission without exception (i.e., If application becomes complete after May 1 (IntÌl Apps.) or June 15 (U.S. & Perm. Res. Apps), the applicant will be considered for the Spring Semester instead of the Fall Semester).
Special Students are students with a bachelorÌs degree who
are not matriculated in the
graduate degree program. If admitted, they may take a maximum of three courses in the College of Computer and Information Science.
Acceptance as a Special Student does not
guarantee admission to a degree program. However, those Special Students
who subsequently apply to and are admitted to a degree program may petition the
Director of the Graduate School to apply the credit earned as a Special Student
towards their degree requirements. Special Students are expected to maintain a
B (3.0) average. International
Applicants are not eligible for Special Student Status.
Applicants for Special Student status must file the application form, application fee, official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended, a personal statement (including the specific courses you wish to take), and two letters of recommendation.
Assistantships
Teaching and Research Assistantships are available for full-time students only. New assistantships are normally awarded in the fall semester only. You may apply by checking the appropriate box on the application form and by submitting ALL application materials by the deadline of January 15th.
