CCIS Scheduled Maintenance Window

The CCIS Computing Resources Committee has approved a regularly scheduled maintenance window for the CCIS computing and networking environment. During this time period all CCIS services, supported machines and network access should be considered to be either down or unstable. If you have any questions about this policy that are not addressed by the information below, please send mail to systems@ccs.neu.edu.

When?

All services, supported machines, and network access should be considered to be either down or unstable every Wednesday from 11:45a to 1:45p unless otherwise noted. Downtime will not take place during "sensitive" time periods including: If you need the downtime to be postponed because of an important conflict, please contact systems@ccs.neu.edu as soon as possible and we'll do our best to accommodate your request.

Why?

A maintenance window allows us to perform necessary small-to-medium-sized hardware and software upgrades, tests of new equipment and servers, and security-related software patching. This downtime allows us to keep our environment up to date in a way that is least disruptive to the user community. Because it is regularly scheduled for the same time each week, people can plan accordingly for the disruption and we no longer have to announce a series of separate downtimes. This regularity also allows us to spread out planned upgrades and software transitions relieving the need to schedule as many changes as possible into single infrequent downtimes. It also means that we can provide the lastest changes and improvements as fast as possible without having to wait very long to deploy them. The end result is a more reliable, current, and stable environment.
