Cooperative Education
- Read the student job critiques and information about the companies to which you have been called. Computer and Information Science information can, for the time, be found in the CCIS Co-op office located in 302 WVH.
- Call prospective employers within 24 hours. Don't for get to ask for the Names, addresses and phone numbers of appropriate contacts before hanging up. Write down this information four future usage, because you will need the phone numbers to follow-up on all of your interviews. When you call to schedule an interview, give your name and specify how you received the information to call. Give the name of your co-op faculty coordinator and your field of Computer and/or Information Science. If you cannot reach the contact person, leave your name and telephone number and reason for your call.
- Dress properly and be on time for your interview. Bring and official form of identification to the interview. Bring extra copies of your resume and transcript to all interviews.
- Keep the co-op office informed of your progress. Check with your co-op faculty coordinator at least once a week. New jobs are listed in the database throughout the semester. The referral process continues throughout the semester.
- You may receive a job offer on the spot when you interview. It is not necessary to accept immediately. If possible, find out how much time the company(ies) will allow you to decide if an offer is extended. Use your best judgment when making decisions. Be Cautious - excessive delay on your part may cause you to lose an offer and jeopardize the co-op relationship.
- When you accept a job offer, confirm the starting date, time, and salary with your employer.
- Once you have accepted a job you must contact the other companies you interviewed with and tell them that you have accepted another offer and are no longer available. Thank them for their time. A job acceptance is irreversible and requires that you refuse any other offers.
- Inform your co-op advisor that you have accepted a position, and at what company. This is most important and should be done immediately after accepting a position.
- Provide your employer with the maximum enthusiasm and productivity of which you are capable.
- Approximately three weeks before the end of your work period both and your supervior should complete a portion of the CCIS Co-op Evaluation. Fill out your portion of the survey and forward the website address to your supervior no later than ltwo weeks before the end of your work period: http://www.ccs.neu.edu/co-op/surveys.htm
- Before returning to school, you should try to discuss with your supervisor:
- Evaluation of your performance
- Suggestions for your next co-op experienc.
- Complete your Co-op work semester fulfilling all regulations as specified in the Co-op Handbook.
- Upon returning to school, attend an Upper-class Reflection Meeting. For a personal discussion of your Co-op experience and your supervisor's evaluation of your performance speak to your faculty co-op coordinator.
- If you are planning to return to the previous employer than all you need to is to complete a Job Status Form and return it.
- If you are returning to a previous employer be sure to let your contact your co-op employer:
- During the fifth week, call your supervisor and company contact to clarify your date of return, duties, responsibilities, and salary. A visit to your company contact at least once during the quarter to maintain your company relationship is important.
