After Co-op Procedures

version Spring/Summer1 2005

Students and employers are required to complete and assessment of the students' performance and assessment of the quality of the work assignment.

In order for a student to receive complete credit and recognition for a completed co-op period and evaluation must be received by the co-op faculty coordinator.

Below you will find the links for completing the on line evaluations for students completing a co-op period.  A newly modified online version of our co-op Student/Employer evaluation has been implemented, which will replace earlier evaluations, normally completed at the end of the coop semester. As you are aware, completion of a Northeastern University Student/Employer Evaluation is required at the end of each working period. With this new version, we hope to be able to collect better information, which will help us in advising and working with both our students and employers.

If both the employer and student wish to complete the same online form, you can fill out the combined evaluation below:

Your time, effort and honesty are highly appreciated. We thank you very much for your participation and cooperation. We are most interested in hearing your suggestions to improve the evaluation.

NOTE: Employers and Students involved with the Computer and Information Science Co-op Program should not be completing a university paper version.  Only use the links and forms provided above in CCIS

INFORMATION ABOUT THE REVISED ON LINE EVALUATION

We have taken the online Employer/Student Evaluation we use here in the CCIS Co-op Program and have added questions based on the factors listed below.  This newly modified version contains additional questions concerning the “quality of the co-op assignment”.

As we try to better articulate the “quality of our co-op assignments”, the question immediately arises, what is meant by quality?

Ideas that went into the development of the revised assessment survey:

·         What factors are involved in describing an assignment as a poor co-op experience?

·         What factors would be present to classify an assignment as only mediocre?

·         What factors are present in describing an assignment as an excellent experience?

In trying to define the expression “quality assignment” we use the following:

Overall Focus:

  • A quality assignment should be challenging and provide positive supervision and mentoring.

Attributes of a quality assignment:

Student Focus:

  • A quality assignment matches the student’s (1) technical, (2) developmental and (3) professional abilities and allows the student to excel in one or more of the above.

College Curriculum Focus:

  • A quality assignment would reflect curriculum outcomes:  Outcomes which measure level of success in accomplishing pre-specified program goals and objectives; having benchmarks and measures of success.

We look forward to reviewing your comments to this new form.
