Paths to Finding an Own Co-op Job
- For those seeking their own as a temporary assignment:
- Determine area(s) where you are interested in working.
- Find names of companies in the area.
- Department of Career Services - Stearns Building first floor.
- Northeastern University Counseling and Testing Office.
- The World Wide Web.
- Boston Globe Want Ads and/or any newspaper.
- Call, write, visit the company for information.
- Read materials thoroughly.
- Decide what you can contribute to that organization.
- Determine what does the company have to offer you?
- Develop a cover letter .
- Call company for an interview, or better yet, go directly to the company. See if you can meet with the company co-op or college relations person. Try to schedule a future appointment.
- Make sure you inform the employer you are pursuing a co-op position established.
- If you can't get an interview, leave your resume, cover letter, and ask to fill out an application.
- If the previous steps don't work, mail your materials to the appropriate person. Include with each package of your materials, a Computer Science Co-op brochure, obtainable from a member of the Co-op team.
- Provide a copy of each cover letter to your Co-op Faculty Coordinator.
