Division Assignments
Northeastern University's quarter plan is set up on an alternating
basis so that students can be available for cooperative education
positions on a ontinuing basis throughout the year. The cooperative
education schedule is the normal sequence to be followed during your
undergraduate years.
DIVISION A & B
Exact division assignment procedures utilized by the Computer Science
co-op team will be outlined more specifically during co-op
orientations. Then, during your personal interview, your eligibility
for the co-op track and your personal preferences regarding your co-op
division assignment will be discussed. The Computer Science co-op
team will assign each student to either Division A or Division B.
Consideration is given to each individual's reference regarding the
division assignment, but the co-op team is responsible for assigning
divisions so that an equitable balance of student numbers can be
maintained for job availability during each co-op quarter.
The co-op work sequence for entering freshmen normally starts during
the fall or winter quarter of the sophomore year. Consideration of
early co-op may be given to certain individuals by the co-op
coordinator.
Students making normal progress towards their degree can expect to
remain in the co-op division to which they are initially assigned.
Your Cooperative Education Calendar outlines the exact dates of each
school and work quarter. All students are in school in the Spring of
their Senior year (during Quarter 11) so that their academic programs
can be completed in time for June graduation.
Students should discuss any plans that they have regarding necessary
division changes with Dr. Simms well in advance of the date that the
change would have to be made. Petitions for division changes will not
be accepted after the 9th week of the quarter preceding the requested
change. Careful consideration is given to such proposals on an
individual basis.
External and internal transfer students, and re-entering students are
initially assigned to Division T on a temporary basis. These
individuals must contact their co-op coordinator during the first
three weeks of each school quarter with the objective of obtaining a
permanent division assignment as soon as sufficient academics are
completed and appropriate arrangements made. Students may not remain
in Division T after the spring quarter of any academic year without
special permission. Failure to file a petition prior to 9 weeks into
the spring quarter may result in withdrawal from the University.
A division for entering winter or spring quarter students. Students
in division J are expected to attend classes during the first summer.
Failure to register will result in University withdrawal. A program
of study must be completed and approved by an academic advisor and
Dr. Simms to avoid the withdrawal.
A special Freshman Co-op division assignment for
spring or summer co-oping.
A division for students who are not eligible for co-op. This
division assignment is generally not available to Computer Science
Students.
