Building H is strategically located across from the Museum of Fine Arts on
Huntington Ave. The CCIS space in Building H consists of the first four
floors of the main tower together with the adjoining wing. This new building
will provide the College with the physical space, facilities and computing
infrastructure for the integration and coordination of all aspects of
teaching, research and academic administration, including co-op advising.
The aggregation of all College functions in a single facility will go a long
way towards building an integrated learning community. Particular attention
was paid in the design to foster interaction between faculty and students
wherever possible. In particular, each floor will have specially designed
space, known as an "Urban Window" overlooking Huntington Avenue, which will
serve as an attraction point for students and faculty to meet on an informal
basis. The facility has been designed to put into practice the belief that
learning takes place in many settings; in the classroom, the laboratory, in
the faculty offices and perhaps most importantly through impromptu meetings
which are facilitated by a well thought out physical design. Wireless
networking throughout the CCIS space will further reduce the barriers to
informal learning.
The facilities in Building H will significantly increase the College's
competitive position with regard to recruiting both faculty and students and
is a visible sign of the increased stature of the University among
competing institutions as well as a strong commitment to our program. More
details will appear later.
