Dean's Message

In our increasingly information-driven economy, the most valuable IT professionals are those who can work effectively across disciplines. Northeastern University's College of Computer and Information Science (CCIS) prepares its students to do just that.

IT is critical to the work of scientists, healthcare providers, business professionals, artists, and countless others. Collaboration with these professionals is critical. At CCIS, our flexible, interdisciplinary research and education programs provide thoughtful leadership and train professionals to meet the demands of the evolving IT landscape.

At the undergraduate level, a wide range of dual degree programs enable students to combine computer and information science with content expertise in business, cognitive psychology, the sciences, and the arts.

At the graduate level, our MS in health informatics prepares students to integrate information technology with health care delivery, drawing from the fields of healthcare, biology, and mathematics as well as a range of IT disciplines from information retrieval to human-computer interaction. Our interdisciplinary MS in information assurance draws from CCIS and the College of Criminal Justice to address the current shortage of professionals trained to develop and maintain our nation's vast and expanding communication infrastructure. Based in part on the strength of this program, the National Security Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security named Northeastern a National Center of Academic Excellence in both Information Assurance Research and Information Assurance Education.

At the research level, teams of faculty and graduate students are engaged in creating the tools and techniques that will drive health informatics, information assurance, and reliable software development. The CCIS faculty is internationally recognized for its leadership in a broad array of research areas critical to the computing discipline. I invite you to learn more on our Research pages.

Opportunities in computer and information science are limited only by the skill and imagination of those who pursue this dynamic field. At Northeastern, our goal is to forge new partnerships and expand horizons to enable our students and faculty to lead the industry in meeting society's information technology needs.

Yours truly,

Larry Finkelstein
